Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a medical student in
Edinburgh. The character of Sherlock Holmes was based on one of
the professors of Medicine at the University. A recent BBC program "The
Killing Rooms" portrayed a semi-fictional version of how Doyle
learned the techniques of deduction and forensic science from this
professor.
