About the Guest house and Bed & Breakfast Association of Scotland?

The Scottish Guest House and Bed & Breakfast Association

Scotland is wonderful. It has magnificent scenery, a rich history and its own distinctive culture. It has mountains, rivers, glens and golf courses on which you will certainly feel at 'home'. Is has myths and legends - and even a monster (or two!)

But perhaps Scotland's most precious asset is its people. Survey after survey has shown that the Scots are famous for their friendliness - especially to the many holiday makers who visit the country every year.

This is especially true of Scotland's guest house and bed & breakfast owners. They have chosen to welcome visitors into their homes and they take a particular pride and interest in ensuring that their guests have truly memorable experiences. As well as hospitality at its best therefore, you will find encyclopaedic knowledge of what to see and do. Accommodation and Information Centre are combined into one.

The Scottish Guest House and Bed & Breakfast Association has been formed to protect the interests of its members and to promote them to our holidaymakers. We hope you will find this site helpful in finding out about them and in introducing you to the 'real Scotland'.

The Scottish Guest House and Bed & Breakfast Association (GHABBA) is a voluntary association which was established at the beginning of 2006. The Associations principal objectives are to:

1) represent the interests of its members and the sector to the tourism and development authorities;

2) generate business for members through their inclusion on the Association web-site and other cost-effective marketing initiatives that may be undertaken from time-to-time;

3) and to develop new initiatives and/or cost-saving opportunities for members through using the collective power of membership numbers.

The decimal point we use today first appeared in a book called "Descriptio" by the Edinburgh mathematician, John Napier, Laird of Merchiston, in 1616. He used a decimal point to separate the whole number part from the decimal number part. Known as 'Marvellous Merchiston", he published many other treatises including "Mirifici logarithmorum" (1614) and Rabdologia (1615) on systems of arithmetic using calculation aids known as Napiers Bones.
